In May, 2024 CROSS-DEVICE service features, with “call casting” and “internet sharing” has been introduced by Google and this features are now available, which is currently in beta, for the users who are having Android 11 or newer operating system with Google Play services version- 24.28.34.
Android central stated that the new features can be used after an update and when Cross-device services option will be seen in the device settings.
NOTE:- Samsung device users do not have ‘Internet-sharing’ option’, instead they can use the “ auto-hotspot” feature.
What are these Cross-Device service features ?
Now let’s know about the newly introduced features, which is a part of Google’s Better Together initiative.
- CALL CASTING:-
This feature enables users to cast/transfer voice calls, video calls among different Android devices which are signed in to the same Google account.
Your Android phone, tablet, or desktop browser can cast video calls on one another, when this feature is turned on.
As for now this feature is available for limited app, such as Google meet where you can switch your video call between Android devices by clicking on ‘Cast icon’. Some of your data may also be used while switching the device.
- Internet sharing Or Instant hotspot: –
As clear by its name, users can easily share their internet\ hotspot access with different Android devices, which are signed into their Google Account.
Chromebooks and Android devices can only be used to share the access linked to the same Google account and users need to go to the <settings> to on ‘Bluetooth’ and ‘Device location’ for sharing internet.
