Android Theft Detection Lock is an AI based feature introduced by Google for Android phone regarding the extra level of safety and security for Android devices, ‘supposed to rolling out to users ‘later’ in 2024’, said by Google.

What is Android Theft Detection Lock?

  • Theft Detection Lock is a feature which will work on the AI algorithms to protect users’ phone and provide it extra level protection if your phone gets theft attack, or it gets swiped by someone.
  • The feature is clear by its name, Theft Detection Lock, which means if your phone detects that theft is in progress or your phone has been swiped or snatched from your hand, then the feature automatically locks your phone and protect data of your phone.
  • AI Algorithm will be used in this feature, which come in action at the instance, if it will recognize any suspicious activity or any motion associated with theft, then your phone will get on alert mode and phone will get locked. Even if your phone has not been snatched but Android suspects something, it will lock your phone. At that moment you need to unlock it again to go back to the apps.

If there are lots of failed authentication attempts tried in your phone, or phone is in offline mode for an extended period, in that case also your phone will be locked. Users need to be more careful with this feature.

Which Android phones will get this feature?

Well, any Android phone with OS Android 10 or higher will have this feature in their device so that most of the smartphones will get covered in it.

But if your phone is not made by Google, you need to wait for the service, as it might take longer time as compared to Google Android phones.

Users need to register their phone with built-in location tracking feature which means that if the device get lost or stolen, users can lock or wipe out the whole device remotely.
