Android Find My Device could soon get the best Apple Find My Feature with a new ‘compass tool‘ .
What is the new ‘compass tool’?
A hidden code is found in the latest Find My Device app for Android which points towards the new ‘compass tool’ feature which would help in more precise device tracking.
The tool will show a compass on the screen, and the compass will show messages on the screen like-“turn left”, “turn right”, and “the device is behind you” as you hunt down your lost item.
This tool is mainly get used with UWB (ultra-wideband) devices, like in Pixel Watch-3. As most of the devices will use GPS to find their whereabouts, but UWB devices will work on the technology which will make it even easier to find something inside a room as compared to other devices.
This tech feature has already been used by Apple back in 2019, with iPhone 11, and now Google is working on it to launch it on its devices as it was previously promised by Google that Find My Device upgrades are on the way, and this tech feature looks to be one of them.
When will the UWB support be seen in Android Find My Device?
For now, nothing could be said that when UWB support will actually work on the newly improved Android Find My Device network, as Google has not confirmed it officially. So, for now, the code found in the app doesn’t do anything, but it shouldn’t be too far off now.

UWB support might also involve some augmented reality features, which allow users to navigate their lost device same way they navigate to a destination using Live View in Google Map.
Hence, at the end it is concluded that when it comes to UWB support, Google is already lagging behind from the Apple and Samsung devices, which are using this for years now.
The tech is in the Pixel Watch 3, but not in the standard Pixel 8 or Pixel 9 handsets. So the users need to upgrade to the Pro models to get UWB.
