YouTube made new miniplayer and several design updates including fine-tunable, playback speed, sleep timer and more official that YouTube has been testing in recent months.
List of New updates of YouTube:
Miniplayer:
Now, users will get a new miniplayer in the YouTube app on Android and iOS which will now look like a picture-in-picture window.
Now, the video appears above in the YouTube app with a close button in a corner, while there will be a strip below which gives you an option of play/pause with 10-second rewind/forward option. Users can also move the in-app miniplayer and resize it to be larger.
Sleep Timer:
All users of YouTube whether free users or premium one will get access to a new Sleep Timer in the player > settings gear menu.
With the help of Sleep Timer users can set a timer to automatically pause playback after a certain amount of time. The increments are: 10, 15, 20, 30, 45 minutes, 1 hour, and end of video.
Fine-tunable playback speed:
With a new UI on mobile, a fine-tunable playback speed also made official in which users will get new increment for playback speed. Instead of the list of increments ranging from 0.25x to 2x, users now get a slider that allows for 0.05x increments.
Also, there are buttons of plus/minus and some presets at the bottom.
Playlist Updates:
Users will get handful of playlist updates like- users get an opportunity to create custom thumbnails using their own images or with AI. The latter is also available in YouTube Music.
Also, new feature of ‘collaborative playlists’ are coming to main YouTube via link or QR code on TVs (coming soon). To rank the videos in playlists, users will be able to vote on videos later this year.

YouTube Badges:
To “celebrate unique-to-YouTube milestones”, an official badges has been made by YouTube for those users who being one of the first set of paid members of a creator’s channel, or correctly complete quizzes.”
In YouTube music, users earn the badges for “being a top listener of their favorite artist or if users get heart of creator on their comments”.
Users can look out for those “Badges” in the You tab over the “next several weeks.”
