AI granny named ‘Daisy’ has been launched by the British telecom giant Virgin Media O2, who is a revolutionary, human-like chatbot which is designed to combat scams.
Daisy is designed in the manner to mimic the conversational style of a wise and witty grandmother who answer calls from scammers in real time, wasting their time and resources, and preventing them from targeting real victims.
As elderly individuals are often targeted by scammers so this human AI-chatbot is designed to impersonates an older adult in which it automates the practice of “scambaiting,” which is basically a tactic where individuals while posing as victims tie up scammers’ time, expose their tactics publicly, gather intelligence for law enforcement, and disrupt scammer devices’ algorithms.

Daisy will help in reducing the number of successful scams by wasting scammer’s time and also helps in gathering valuable data for law enforcement to disrupt scammer operations.
In the introductory video from O2, it has been said by human AI-chatbot that ”While they’re busy talking to me they can’t be scamming you, and let’s face it, dear, I’ve got all the time in the world”.
Daisy is designed as a photorealistic AI-generated woman with grey hair, glasses, and pearls, conversing on a retro pink landline, as depicted in the video. This human AI-chatbot resembles as a sweet British granny, and for her perfect realistic authentic tone, London-based creative agency VCCP Faith replicated the voice of grandmother of one of the staff members.
It is said by O2 in a statement that “By tricking the criminals into thinking they were defrauding a real person and playing on scammers’ biases about older people, Daisy has prevented them from targeting real victims and, most importantly, has exposed the common tactics used so customers can better protect themselves”.
