Facebook Messenger updates are bringing some new features for users related to video and audio calls, as announced by Meta in a Wednesday blog post.
The app now gets HD video calls as well as noise suppression in the background and voice isolation for “higher-quality calls.”

Video calls will now be in HD:
Now, HD video calls will be offered by Meta to its users, though Meta has taken so long time to bring HD quality to Messenger’s video calls.
HD calls get enabled over wifi only; it will get disabled for cellular calls by default. This is because Meta wants to avoid complaints from users about high data usage.
However, those who have unlimited data plans can change the call setting.
They simply need to tap three dots in the top right during a video call, then choose Call settings and enable mobile data for HD video.
Noise suppression and voice isolation:
Users will get the option of noise suppression and voice isolation options for smooth and quality video calls.
Noise suppression will cut out background noise during a call, whereas voice isolation puts the emphasis on your voice rather than other sounds occurring around you.
This feature is similar to “iOS’ built-in Voice Isolation”

Siri integration with Messenger:
Siri is now going to integrate with Messenger. So, now users can ask assistant Siri to call or message someone on Messenger. You just need to remember that while asking Siri to do something, you need to specify the name of the app; otherwise, Siri will call or text someone via Apple Messages.
You can now leave audio and video messages:
One more feature similar to iOS that is launched to FaceTime in iOS 17 is now introduced to Messenger, where users can record an audio or video message if someone doesn’t pick up their audio or video call.
So, those who like to leave voicemails will like this new feature of Messenger.
Use of AI to generate backgrounds for video calls:
Now, users can generate backgrounds for video calls using Meta’s new AI backgrounds feature.
Users can simply tap the effects icon and choose “Backgrounds” to request whatever background image they want Meta AI to create. AI will generate a desirable background for you during your call.
