Google Maps has launched new feature “Product search” that allow users to search product with real-time inventory and finding items in stock at nearby stores.
What is Google Maps Product search feature?
- Ahead of Christmas and New year holidays, Google Map has launched new Product search feature that include product-specific search capabilities.
- This new update will allow users to search for specific items or products directly within Google Maps and find real-time inventory availability at nearby stores.
- A wide range of items could be found by shoppers by searching for products from select stores directly from the Google Maps search bar and would have immediate access to local pickup options.
- With inventory listings, the products will be updated for users to know when and where to pick them up? Product listings for different items will be displayed in Search results, what one might find on Google shopping.
While announcing about this new feature, it has been stated by Google that “Need a last-minute gift? Now, you can search in Google Maps for items like pickleball rackets, board games, ice cream makers and more to find nearby stores that have them in stock so you can pick up what you need, stat. No empty stockings here!”

To successfully implement the new product search feature, retailers need to follow some steps. The recommended steps to be followed are-
- Verify the setup of your Google Merchant Center.
- Implement the necessary structured data.
- Test the transmission of your data.
- Monitor performance using Google Search Console.
- Regularly update your inventory feeds.
Google Maps launches an updated travel planner:
An updated travel planner has also been introduced by Google Maps which will help in avoiding traffic and delays in transit systems.
As, during holidays most of the roads get blocked and during winter there are unplowed snows making roads blocked. Google maps will help to display road reports for unplowed snow and blocked roads.
Users having electric vehicles powered by Google now have an option to plan trips with charging stop details on their phone itself and the planned trips can be sent to the cars.
Now, cargo dimensions can be added by drivers in North America and can get trailer-friendly routes, avoiding low bridges and tunnels for peaceful trips.
