Google has been rolling out the Gemini 2.0 Experimental Flash model on Android devices, which was launched for the desktop version last week.
Now, users can get access to the latest and greatest AI model of Google Gemini 2.0 on their Android devices.
Gemini 2.0 Flash on Android:
The Gemini app is powered by the Google (Search) app on Android. Users can install the update from the Google Play Store, as version 15.50 is rolling out. The Gemini 2.0 Experimental Flash model is available for both free as well as Advanced users on Android.
To give it a try, users might have to force stop and restart their Google or Gemini app to get a model switcher at the top of the homepage of Gemini.
An ‘upgrade’ promo will be shown by the model picker for the subscription. Users are getting three choices:
- 1.5 Pro: Tackle complex tasks
- 1.5 Flash: Get everyday help
- 2.0 Flash Experimental: Preview our latest experimental model
What to expect?
As its name suggests, it’s just an experimental model. And, as it is meant to be an early preview, it may make mistakes and show some ‘unexpected behavior’ while file upload is not currently available for any tier. Also, it may lack some real-time information access.
The company stated that:
“While we’re excited for you to try it, remember it’s an early preview and might not work as expected. Additionally, some Gemini features won’t be compatible with this model in its experimental state.”
This new model shows significantly improved performance for tasks like coding, math, reasoning, and instruction following.
If users have to deal with complex coding challenges, need help with complex projects, or have to create detailed instructions for their business plans, the model is designed in a way that it can resolve all these problems with ease.
It is twice as fast as the previous version and shows better performance on key benchmarks.
Availability of the 2.0 Flash:
For now, users can use this experimental model as a test drive to feel the capabilities they are going to have with this powerful 2.0 model.
The general availability of 2.0 Flash will be seen in January for developers.
More model sizes are also coming in January.
The availability of 2.0 Flash on the Gemini app had been updated by Google yesterday for the iPhone as well.
Mobile users will also receive access to Deep Research early next year.
