A new free video editing meta app has been announced by Instagram which will help editors and creators shoot and edit videos or reels on their smartphones. The new editing app is announced amid the ban of the popular editing app CapCut in the US.
This upcoming video editing meta app named ‘Edits’ has been unveiled by the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, as Instagram’s own video-editing mobile app.
Instagram video editing app: Edits
Instagram announced the new video editing app, which is going to launch next month. It will provide editors and creators with the needed tools and effects required in creating reels.
Like CapCut, an optimized mobile UI and support for commonly used video features will be offered by the Edits app.
The Edits app will allow the creators to insert custom text and captions, use AI-generated content, multiple audio tracks, stickers, special effects, green screens, and more in their videos and reels.
Also, the app will support recording clips and allow users to pick between different resolutions, frame rates, etc.

Therefore, it can be said that the creators will get a one-stop solution to edit their videos by using this Instagram free video editing app.
As Instagram is going to integrate with this new editing app, the app will feature a dedicated tab for insights. This insight tab will help creators check how their reels perform on the platform and understand their flaws.
Similarly, a custom section will also be included to help users with ideation and planning.
iOS users can pre-order the Edits app from the Apple App Store and once the app launches in February, it will get downloaded automatically to their iPhone. The listing of the app will soon start on Google’s Play Store.
Instagram 3-minute-long reel feature:
One more announcement came from Adam Mosseri’s side that now Instagram reels will be 3 minutes long. It is double the 90-second limit the platform had in place before.
Creators can now upload reels for up to 3 minutes on their Instagram profile. It is said by Adam Mosseri that 90-second videos are too short for those who want to share longer stories.
In that case, to help creators connect with their followers, Instagram has now introduced the feature of uploading videos of 3 minutes.
Well, Instagram never fails to bring features for creators to help them connect with their followers. The long-video feature and the launch of its own editing app will definitely help creators in making their reels.
