A new AI agent, ‘Deep Research,’ is introduced by OpenAI to help people do complex research using ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot platform.
Deep Research: New AI agent
A blog post published on Sunday by OpenAI stated that a new AI agent, ‘Deep Research,’ was designed for “people who do intensive knowledge work in areas like finance, science, policy, and engineering and need thorough, precise, and reliable research.”Also, it could be useful for anyone making “purchases that typically require careful research, like cars, appliances, and furniture.”
As clear by name, deep research is basically designed to get deep-researched information from multiple websites and other sources rather than getting quick answers or summaries.
The option of Deep Research can be seen in the composer of ChatGPT. For using Deep Research, users just need to select Deep Research in the ChatGPT composer section and then enter a query.
Users will also get the option to attach files or spreadsheets. (It’s a web-only experience for now, with mobile and desktop app integration to come later this month.)
Once the user enters a query, within 5 to 30 minutes, depending upon the complexity of the question and the resources available, Deep Research will answer the question.

For now, the output of Deep Research will only be text-based. But as said by OpenAI, very soon embedded images, data visualizations, and other “analytic” outputs will be added to it.
For accuracy, the output of Deep Research will be “fully documented, with clear citations and a summary of [the] thinking, making it easy to reference and verify the information.”
Deep Research accuracy:
To make sure the precise output of Deep Research, a recently announced special version of the o3 ‘reasoning’ AI model, is used by OpenAI.
As said by OpenAI, this o3 version is “optimized for web browsing and data analysis,” adding that “it leverages reasoning to search, interpret, and analyze massive amounts of text, images, and PDFs on the internet, pivoting as needed in reaction to information it encounters.”
Availability of ChatGPT Deep Research:
Deep Research is available to ChatGPT Pro users with a limited 100 queries per month, with support for Plus and Team users coming next.
For now, there is no release timeline for ChatGPT Deep Research for customers in the U.K., Switzerland, and the European Economic Area.
