New “Username PIN” feature has been introduced by Meta-owned WhatsApp which has been released for Android beta version 2.24.18.2 testing phase and might be available for public until the end of the year.
What is “Username PIN” feature?
According to a recent report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp’s new username PIN feature allow users to hide their phone numbers and use username on WhatsApp for their privacy protection.
It means that as earlier users need to share their phone numbers to get connected on WhatsApp, but now there will be an option of username which can be shared, providing users greater control over who can message them, and protect their privacy from spam messages.

How “Username PIN” feature works?
- Through this new feature, two privacy settings will be offered by WhatsApp: – “Username”, “Username with PIN”.
- By first option “Username”, phone number of the users will be hidden, only username will be shown on the WhatsApp profile of users, providing users added layer of privacy.
- By second option “Username with PIN”, users will have 4-digit PIN along with username which they can share with specific person. Only those who have this PIN will be able to send messages on WhatsApp.
Thus, by these two options, users will have full control over their privacy and enhanced experience on the platform.
Users’ contact who has already have their number or users’ conversation with the existing contacts will not be affected by this new feature. This feature is for those who are not in contact, or new contact.
