List of Android 15 security features:

Single-step biometric log in:

One of the biggest improvements done by the Google in the field of security is that now apps let users sign in with a passkey via a single step of biometric authentication(using facial recognition, your fingerprint). This makes using passkeys, which are far more secure than standard username/password credentials, much easier.

In this feature, passkeys will appear as keyboard autofill suggestions. When users sign in to an app or any service for which passkeys are created, users need to select passkey and then authenticate with biometric login, that’s it.

Private space for apps:

Google has introduced the option of a Private Space for apps in Android 15 security feature which allows users to secure and hide any private or important app in the private space of their device.

All the data and notifications from the apps in the private space are isolated from the rest of your phone to keep the most sensitive apps hidden away from prying eyes.

Users must unlock the app each time with their fingerprint or screen-unlock code or pattern. Users can also connect it to a different Google account.

Hiding OTP from the notification:

Google introduced new security features coming to Android 15 and Google Play Protect that will help block scams, fraud, and malware apps on users’ devices.

This new security feature mainly aimed at blocking banking trojans and spyware from stealing your information by hiding ‘one-time passcodes’ from notifications so that it cannot be stolen by malware.

It will also protect against screen-sharing attacks done via social engineering, as the feature allow the operating system of the device to automatically block sensitive information like OTP from showing in the notification and protect it from being stolen by remote threat actors.

AI-based threat detection:

It is said by Google that they are introducing a new security feature in Android 15 called ‘Google Play Protect live threat detection’, which uses on-device artificial intelligence to detect when an Android app performs suspicious behaviour.

The app is then sent back to Google for review, and users are warned to disable it until it can be determined if it is malicious.

This feature will secure the device from different malicious threat and attack and protect the device’s important and private data from being get hacked.

APKs integration with biometric authentication:

It is reportedly considered by Google to enhance the security protocols for sideloading Android Package Kits (APKs) by integrating it with biometric authentication.

Currently, Google Play Protect is the main security mechanism for scanning sideloaded APKs on Android devices. However, Google is concerned about its effectiveness, as users generally use to easily bypass the security prompt without verifying it strictly which is not safe for the device. So, Google concluded that by adding biometric authentication or PIN verification to the side loading of APKs provide an extra layer of security to it which would make it more challenging for users to bypass security prompts.

These are some highlighted security features which users can get after the release of Android 15. Google has really worked in the field of security and privacy features for the Android users as this should be the priority to safeguard the privacy of users from getting attacked by any suspicious activities.
