Android 15 factory reset protection has been introduced by Google which is an improved version of the earlier one, providing more protection to the device and thieves can no longer be able to bypass the setup process and sell your phone.

New changes in Factory Reset Protection have been introduced by Google in which the company has fixed the problem of easy bypassing the Factory Reset Bypass feature of Android phone preventing the thief to steal data.

Factory Reset Bypass feature comes in an Android phone which gets activated by adding a new Google account in a phone while setting it up. It helps to prevent the ‘forced factory reset’ of the phone by asking to ‘sign in via the previous Google account’, thus making it difficult for the thief to factory reset the device. But currently it is very easy to bypass it by skipping the setup wizard. Hence, Google has finally fixed it on Android 15.

How Android 15 factory reset protection works?

In Android 15, factory reset protection has been improved by Google which will prevent thief from bypassing the setup process and without signing in via the original Google account, which was there before factory reset, the device will not work. Thus, making a locked device of no use and preventing thief from stealing devices and data.

Also, Android 15 factory reset protection will prevent thief from doing following things are –

  • FRP will not be deactivated by enabling Bootloader unlocking.
  • New Google account cannot be added.
  • Thief won’t be able to set a lock screen PIN/password.
  • And cannot install new apps.

A secret key will be needed to deactivate FRP during each boot and it will be stored inside ‘user data’ partition by Android which will show this key during each boot. And, if data partition is wiped, users need to sign into the Google account which was there before factory reset to verify the ‘secret key’.

Thus, by preventing the deactivation of FRP in Android 15 , Google has tried to make Android phones more secure and geared toward ruining the efforts of thieves from stealing device and data of users.
