Samsung offer six years Android updates on one of its most affordable phones with the boost of software update policy on flagships to match and compete with Google Pixel.
With the launch of Pixel 8 series, seven years of both ‘security updates’ and ‘Android OS’ updates has been offered by Google which has set a new standard in the market. The devices in which this policy is applied are- Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

On the other hand, to match the policy of Google, Samsung committed the same policy earlier this year starting with the Galaxy S24 series, with the policy also applying to Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6.
But current policy is available for pricey smartphones only, so now Samsung is all set for upgrading its update policy for one of its affordable phone as well. As if we compare ‘Galaxy A16’ to the ‘Galaxy A15’ which launched before it, Samsung has announced that the new model will get ‘six years’ of full software support of both security updates and Android OS updates.
Galaxy A16 is a new budget-friendly model of Samsung which have a 6.7-inch display, and the addition of IP54 water resistance, but the most highlighting feature is that it will have ‘six years’ of software support. This policy of Samsung is upgraded version from the previous four years of OS upgrades and five years of security updates. The new model Galaxy A16 has not launched yet but is expected to be launch within the next month or so.
So, the users can now expect the support of flagship phone in their budget and affordable phone, in terms of longevity, with the new Samsung offer of six years Android updates.
Though it is not a major change but still it’s a wonderful move taken by Samsung for Android devices which allow users to get the same support as flagship on their cheapest model.
