Meta Llama AI model is now available for U.S. government agencies in the areas of defence and national security.
Llama is a family of autoregressive large language models(LLMs) which was released by Meta AI in February,2023. Firstly, China used Meta’s Llama model to develop an AI tool for military use, and now the model will be used by US for its military use.

Meta’s open-source Llama AI model will be used by US government agencies and contractors for “national security applications.” Responsible uses of open source AI models will help government agencies to promote global security and establish the U.S. in the global race for AI leadership.

Meta made an announcement on November 4, 2024 that it’s working with companies including Accenture Federal Services, Amazon Web Services, Anduril, Booz Allen, Databricks, Deloitte, IBM, Leidos, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, Oracle, Palantir, Scale AI and Snowflake to bring Llama to US government agencies.
It has been revealed by Meta that to “synthesize” maintenance documents, Oracle has already started building on Llama to help aircraft technicians make repairs. On the other hand, the model is being used by Lockheed Martin to generate code and analyze data. Deloitte will help U.S. government agenciesto better serve their communities in education, energy, small business development, the skilled trades and more by bringing Llama-based solutions.
It is said by Nick Clegg, Meta’s President of Global affairs that the partnership of Meta AI with U.S. government agencies will help the US compete with China in the global arms race over artificial intelligence.
“As an American company, and one that owes its success in no small part to the entrepreneurial spirit and democratic values the United States upholds, Meta wants to play its part to support the safety, security and economic prosperity of America – and of its closest allies too”, said by the Meta’s President of Global affairs.
AI model might get available to the government during Meta’s quarter three earnings call, as the company hinted about it.
